PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Northwestern moved up one spot in the team standings following Friday's second round at the 2013 U.S. Intercollegiate hosted by Stanford at the Stanford Golf Course.

The Wildcats carded a 7-over 287 on a tough day for scoring that saw just one team break par. NU now is at 11-over 571 (284-287) for the event, tied with Colorado for ninth position.

Northwestern again teed off on the back nine Friday, which plays as the tougher side at the Stanford Golf Course.

Junior Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) made two birdies and two bogeys on the back side to open his second round, then found himself 1-over par after a bogey on No. 5. He responded immediately with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 6 and 7 to finish his day at 1-under 69 -- his first round in the 60s of the season. Perry moved up to 16th in the field at even-par 140 (71-69).

Freshman Josh Jamieson (St. Andrews, Scotland/High School of Dundee) made two bogeys in his first six holes before a birdie at the score-able par-5 16th. A three bogey stretch after the turn from Nos. 3 through 5 left him at 4-over 74 for the day and 4-over 144 (70-74) for the tournament, good for 49th position.

Freshman Andrew Whalen (Ephrata, Wash./Ephrata Senior) carded four bogeys on his opening nine to turn at 4-over 39, then clawed back with consecutive birdies on Nos. 1 and 2. On that par-5 first, Whalen turned a six-iron over from under a tree in the left rough, running it up onto the green to set up a 2-putt birdie from 20 feet. He would end up maintaining that number to sign for a 2-over 72 and a 36-hole 33rd-place total of 3-over 143 (71-72).

Senior Nick Losole (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Notre Dame) turned in 2-over par 37 before a three birdie front-nine that helped contribute to an even-par 35 coming home. Losole's 2-over 72 places him 62nd in the field at 6-over 146 (74-72).

Sophomore Matthew Negri (El Cajon, Calif./Grossmont), who struggled early in the first round Thursday before bouncing back with a strong finish, again had trouble getting going on Friday, only this time the recovery was not forthcoming. After a 3-over 38 going out, he matched that number on the way home as well for a 6-over 76 on the day that placed him 71st at 8-over 148 (72-76).

Competing as an individual, sophomore Bennett Lavin (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) put in another solid round to finish in 3-over 73, placing him 49th overall at 4-over 144 (71-73).

Junior John Callahan (Hinsdale, Ill./Benet Academy) and redshirt freshman Scott Smith (Pepper Pike, Ohio/University School) also competed as individuals, with Smith shooting a 2-under 33 in his first nine en route to a 2-over 72 and Callahan struggling to an 85.

The third and final round of the 2013 U.S. Intercollegiate gets underway with tee times beginning at 10 a.m. CT/8 a.m. PT tomorrow, Saturday, March 30.
