TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Led by Columbus, Ohio, products Kyle Moore (Dublin Scioto) and Jonathan Bowers (Bishop Watterson), Northwestern is in the hunt for its first tournament title of the 2006-07 season.

The Wildcats, ranked 28th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin index, are in fourth place (6-over 294), just four strokes behind Mississippi State and Auburn, the first-round leaders, at Florida State's Seminole Intercollegiate. The College of Charleston is in third place at 5-over.

Bowers had four birdies and five bogeys, to go along with nine pars. North Carolina State's Brad Revell shot a 5-under 67 and is the tourney's first-day leader.

Northwestern seniors David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) and Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) are also within striking distance of the tourney leaders. Merkow is 2-over (74) and in 26th place while Wilson is 3-over and in 34th place.

    Junior Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) is 71st with a 10-over 82.
