RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico -- Junior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) is in third place in the individual standings after the first round Sunday at the Puerto Rico Classic. Lipsky fired a 4-under 68 to lead Northwestern, which is in 10th place in the team standings after round one.

The Wildcats fired a team round of 2-over 290, good for a 10th-place tie with Virginia Tech. Those schools are two shots behind ninth-place Alabama and one shot in front of 12th place Ohio State. No. 1 Oklahoma State leads the tournament after shooting a 13-under 275.

Lipsky went 1-under 35 on the front nine before carding a 3-under 33 on the back side, matching the second-best total of the day on the back nine.
