    Men's Golf Sits in 12th Place After Two Rounds at the Mercedes-Benz Championship

    PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Following two rounds of play, Northwestern sits in 12th place out of 15 teams at the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at Sawgrass Country Club, a 6,895-yard, par-72 course. The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday, beginning at 8 a.m. ET. The tournament is also being presented by American Express Financial Advisors.

    Ranked 45th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Collegiate rankings, the Wildcats shot 311 as a team for the first 18 holes and then lowered their second-round score to 301 to sit 25 strokes behind current leader Florida, the defending NCAA national champion. North Florida, the host school, and LSU are in second and third place, respectively.

    Sophomore Tom Johnson (Fair Oaks, Calif./Del Campo), who is sitting 21st in this week's Golfweek/Sagarin Collegiate individual rankings, led the 'Cats with a 79 and 72 in his two rounds. Junior Scott Harrington (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) and Flagler College transfer Bjorn Widerstedt (Vasteras, Sweden) sit in respective ties for 32nd and 38th place. Harrington is one stroke behind Johnson (75-77), and Widerstedt (77-76) one stroke behind Harrington.

    This tournament features 15 of the nation's top programs from across the nation, including four of the top-10 teams in the Golfweek/Sagarin Collegiate Golf Rankings and four of the top-11 ranked players.

    Florida's Camilio Villegas, the country's fifth-ranked player, leads the field after shooting a 7-under-par 137 for the first two rounds.
