Alamo Bowl Release on NU's Arrival

SAN ANTONIO -- Northwestern touched down in San Antonio just after 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, to begin its Valero Alamo Bowl week. The Wildcats have seven days until they take on the Missouri Tigers at 7 p.m. CT Monday, Dec. 29, at the Alamodome.

Northwestern's caravan from the airport was met at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on the famed Riverwalk by local media, representatives from the Valero Alamo Bowl and a mariachi band playing in the lobby. Although the announced San Antonio temperature upon landing was 37 degrees, that still proved to be a vast improvement over Evanston's temps on Monday. The forecast calls for a high of 78 in San Antonio on Christmas Day.

The Wildcats held their first team meeting at 4 p.m. with several special guests addressing the team. Valero Alamo Bowl President Derrick Fox welcomed NU and expressed his excitement at the Wildcats' participation in the 2008 contest. San Antonio native and NFL alum Wane McGarity followed by 2002 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Priest Holmes then addressed the 'Cats, sharing their thoughts on bowl week and encouraging the players to enjoy the ride while taking care of business.

Northwestern will hit the practice pitch at Trinity University tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. CT before several players visit the Santa Rosa Children's Hospital in the afternoon.
