EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior superback Drake Dunsmore (Lenexa, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) has been chosen as one of eight semifinalists for the John Mackey Award, presented annually to the top tight end in the nation.
Finalists will be announced by the Nassau County Sports Commission on Monday, Nov. 21.
As he was in 2009 and 2010, Dunsmore continues to be one of Northwestern's top offensive threats with 40 catches and 426 yards this season, both of which rank second on the team.
He already has been spotlighted by the John Mackey Award presenters this season having been named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week following a record-setting performance at Indiana on Oct. 29. Dunsmore caught four touchdown passes -- a Northwestern single-game record -- and finished with seven catches for 112 yards.
In that game, Dunsmore became the Wildcats' all-time leader for receiving yards by a tight end, breaking a mark that had stood since 1983. Dunsmore enters this weekend's matchup against Minnesota with 1,471 career yards on 138 catches.
Dunsmore's offensive production stacks up well with that of other tight ends across the country. His six touchdown catches are tied for fourth most among FBS tight ends while his 14 career TD's also are the fourth-best sum for his position group.
Below is the complete list of Mackey Award semifinalists:
Dwayne Allen (Jr., Clemson)
Orson Charles (Jr., Georgia)
Drake Dunsmore (Sr., Northwestern)
Tyler Eifert (So., Notre Dame)
Coby Fleener (Sr., Stanford)
Ladarius Green (Sr., Louisiana)
