EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior long snapper Phil Brunner (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) has been named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V first-team selection for the third year in a row, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Brunner, a graduate student working toward a master's degree in materials science and engineering, already owns an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering.

Brunner has been a huge part of NU's special teams success, owning a perfect rating on every single snap of the year (punts, PAT's and field goals) to help Stefan Demos rank among the Big Ten's leaders in punting while placekicker Amado Villarreal ranks eighth in the nation in field goals made.

To be eligible for the award, a player must be in at least his second year of athletic eligibility, be a first-team or key performer and carry a cumulative 3.30 grade point average. This GPA standard is higher than the 3.2 required in previous years.

As a first-team All-District selection, Brunner will be placed on the ballot for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America consideration.
