Future Northwestern Football Schedules
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern announced today (Oct. 19) a change in nonconference opponents for its 2013 football schedule. On Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, the Wildcats will welcome Western Michigan to Ryan Field, giving Northwestern an additional seventh home game for the 2013 campaign.
Next fall's meeting between the Wildcats and Broncos -- who also are set to open the 2016 season against one another -- represents the first game on the gridiron between the two schools in their respective histories.
"We're looking forward to welcoming Coach Cubit and the Broncos to Ryan Field for the first time next September," said Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald. "Coach has been a great friend for a long time and he runs a very successful program we have the utmost respect for."
The matchup with Western Michigan replaces a previously scheduled road contest at Vanderbilt. NU also will no longer host the Commodores on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 as previously announced.
With the schedule change, Northwestern now is set to play four consecutive home games following its 2013 season-opener at California, welcoming Syracuse (Sept. 7), Western Michigan (Sept. 14) and Maine (Sept. 21) to Ryan Field before hosting Ohio State (Oct. 5) to open Big Ten play.
