EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the second consecutive week, senior quarterback Brett Basanez (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) has picked up Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors. It is the fourth weekly career honor for the four-year signal caller, who led the Wildcats to a 34-29 victory at Purdue -- their first win in West Lafayette since 1995.

Basanez earned this week's accolade after totaling 506 yards in total offense (463 passing and 43 rushing) -- the eighth-best single-game performance in Big Ten history. He completed 37-of-55 passes and threw three touchdowns and ran for another. For the fifth time in six games, Basanez did not throw an interception.

Basanez became just the second player in Big Ten history to record two games with 500 or more yards of total offense -- Purdue's Drew Brees is the other. Basanez recorded an NU-record 548 yards vs. TCU in 2004.

Led by Basanez, the Wildcats went over the 600-yard mark for total offense for a second straight week -- a Northwestern record. Basanez's 463 passing yards also gives him seven consecutive games with 200 or more yards passing, another Wildcat record.

He now has 8,808 career passing yards, making him college football's second-leading active passer behind USC's Matt Leinart (8,825 yards). Basanez also ranks second among active players with 9,632 yards of total offense. With 368 more yards, Basanez will become just the fourth player in Big Ten history to total 10,000 or more yards of total offense.

Basanez ranks second nationally in total offense (350.1 ypg), fourth in completions per game (25.8) and eighth in passing yards per game (308.3). He is the Big Ten leader in all three of those categories.
