AFCA Good Works Team® -- Complete Release

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Wildcats senior placekicker Jeff Budzien (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) has been honored as one of 11 members of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® in FBS college football. Presented by Allstate Insurance and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), the Good Works Team® is one of the most prestigious off-the-field honors in college sports, paying tribute to the positive impact student-athletes have on their communities and the lives of others.

Budzien becomes the seventh Northwestern player to be named to the 11-player AFCA Good Works Team® in the last eight years, joining former Wildcats Al Netter (2011), Corbin Bryant (2010), Andrew Brewer (2009), Eric Peterman (2008), Adam Kadela (2007) and Joel Howells (2006).

For more than two decades, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® has recognized college football players at all levels of the sport for inspiring acts of service and off-the-field achievements. This summer, the program received a record number of nominations from colleges and universities across the country. From the nominations, a voting panel selected 11 players from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA to comprise the 22-player team.

Budzien has established himself as one of the top place-kickers in the nation, earning the 2012 Bakken-Andersen Big Ten Kicker of the Year award last season and a spot on the 2013 Lou Groza Award (national kicker of the year) Watch List this year. But the two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree has made a lasting impact off the field as well.

The Wisconsin native serves on the Northwestern Special Olympics Executive Committee, organizing key annual events including the Polar Plunge and Young Athletes Day, makes frequent visits to a local elementary school to assist their on-site social worker, and is an annual contributor to Read Across Evanston Week. A member of Northwestern's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Budzien also led members of the Wildcats football family in creating a program to combat bullying at a local middle school.

Fans can vote for the 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® Captain by visiting ESPN.com and searching "Good Works." There, fans can learn more about this year's team members and vote for the player who they feel represents the "best of the best" in the areas of giving back and contributing to the greater good of their communities.
