EVANSTON, Ill. -- Pairing Chicago's Big Ten Team with a historic franchise that has brought two Stanley Cup championships to the Windy City in the last four years, Northwestern Athletics announced plans to host Chicago Blackhawks Day at Ryan Field on Saturday (Sept. 7). Fans in attendance to watch the 19th-ranked Wildcats face Syracuse in their home-opener (5 p.m.) can expect Blackhaws-themed promotions throughout the game to celebrate the 2013 Stanley Cup-champions
Prior to kickoff, fans have multiple opportunities to secure discounted tickets to the contest. Between now and Saturday, fans are invited to email email@example.com to request a special promo code, or arrive at Gate F at Ryan Field on game day wearing Blackhawks gear and receive a group rate discount on their ticket purchase.
Among the special guests from the Blackhawks expected to be on hand at Ryan Field are Northwestern alum and Blackhawks chairman Rocky Wirtz, president and CEO John McDonough, executive vice president Jay Blunk and on-ice stars Brandon Saad and Bryan Bickell.
"The success of the Blackhawks is something that all Chicagoans celebrate," said Northwestern Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips. "It's terrific that we can recognize Northwestern's own Rocky Wirtz as well as John, Jay and the entire Blackhawks organization for their tremendous accomplishments."
Saturday's game against the Orange will begin the only way Blackhawks fans know how -- with the singing of the national anthem by the one-and-only Jim Cornelison. Mascot Tommy Hawk will be in attendance and fans can look forward to additional Blackhawks-themed surprises throughout the evening.
