EVANSTON, Ill. -- CatBackers, the women's support group for Northwestern University athletics
has announced its fall football schedule of luncheons and speakers.
The first luncheon kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, in the Ryan Field Stadium Club. Special guests include Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald and his wife, Stacy, and new Senior Associate Athletic Director Mike Polisky. The Fitzgeralds will cover family life and football prospects while Polisky provides insights into NU's new marketing program. Lunch is served at noon with the program starting promptly at 12:30 p.m.
Other luncheons and speakers include:
Sept. 30, Hilton Garden Inn, Dave Eanet, WGN Radio sports director and Ted Albrecht, former Chicago Bear and NU color analyst. Mick McCall, NU's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, will enlighten the audience on the quarterback
position. (11:30 a.m. social, noon lunch, 12:30 p.m. program)
Oct. 21, Ryan Field Stadium Club, CatBacker Reception, open to friends and family.
Special guest at this first-time CatBacker evening event is Christine Brennan,
Northwestern graduate and USA Today sports columnist and ESPN/ABC commentator. Ken Kowalski, NU's director of video operations for the `Cats, will also share his insights from a video perspective. (6 to 8 p.m., appetizers and cash bar)
Nov. 18, Hilton Garden Inn, Director of Athletics Jim Phillips and Defensive Line Coach Marty Long round out the final fall luncheon. (11:30 a.m. social, noon lunch, 12:30 p.m. program)
One of the highlights of the meetings is the opportunity to meet a selected number of players and learn a little bit more about their future plans, field of study and how they came to choose Northwestern.
Membership in the CatBackers organization is open to all. Annual dues are a modest $25 and each luncheon is an additional $25. For more information on the group, contact

The club was founded in 1998 and while its main area of support is devoted to football, in recent years the club has also work with both the men's and women's basketball teams. According to club president, Liz Kerr, the club plans to reach out to other teams in the future.
