EVANSTON, Ill. -- For many members of the Chicagoland media market, Northwestern's on-campus Media Day Thursday represented their first chance of the season to catch up with members of Chicago's Big Ten Team, and they turned out in force to do so. The biggest names in the business were on hand, including TV crews from CBS, NBC, ABC and WGN and reporters from the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Daily Herald, the Associated Press and

See below for a social media recap of the morning's events at NU's Nicolet Football Center:

Before bringing head coach Pat Fitzgerald to the stage to preview his eighth season at the helm in Evanston, Northwestern set the tone for Media Day by debuting a new video featuring quarterback Kain Colter. In it, Colter reflects on his NU career to date and makes no secret of his goals for the team in his senior campaign. See for yourself:

Coach Fitz did take the stage after that...

...and spoke about his coaching staff's evolving plan for practice start times, minimizing wear and tear on the team's returning veterans while ratcheting up the mental aspect of preparation.

He also gave insight into how many of those same veterans progressed during the offseason -- but (sarcastically) had a little trouble remembering his promising young superback. Hopefully this highlight triggers his memory:

After that, it was time for members of the 22nd-ranked Wildcats to take over the spotlight, which media veterans like Trevor Siemian and Tyler Scott did with ease:

The media also had a chance to visit with place-kicker Jeff Budzien on the same day he was named a second-team preseason All-American by Sports Illustrated. (And before you ask: yes, Jeff was officially invited to Media Day Thursday, unlike a few weeks ago in Chicago...). Hear what Jeff had to say about dealing with the expectations that go with being one of the top returning kickers in the nation:

Wondering what else the Wildcats had to say to the media? Look no further:

And finally, one final interview that you can look forward to seeing on's Big Ten blog: Venric Mark talks with reporter and Northwestern alum Adam Rittenberg about the role that boxing played in his athletic development while growing up in Houston. Mark -- who disputed Kain Colter's suggestion that he'd be an ultra featherweight -- even showed off his skills on camera for Rittenberg. Look for the post in the near future.
