NFL Network to Air Team USA's World Cup Championship Victory
July 26, 2007 EVANSTON, Ill.-- The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) World Cup Championship game, pitting Team USA and former NU linebacker Demetrius Eaton against Japan, will be aired this Saturday on the NFL Network at noon (CT). Eaton was selected as one of 45 former college football players to compete in the World Championship of American Football, which was a six-team round-robin tournament that took place earlier this month in Japan. Team USA breezed through the first two games of the tournament, defeating South Korea 77-0 in the first game and then beating Germany, 33-7, in game two. The championship game ended as an instant classic when Southern Illinois kicker Craig Coffin kicked a game-winning field goal in the second overtime that gave Team USA a 23-20 victory and the Gold Cup to boot.
"I was out there on a business trip. I was out there trying to win. I wasn't leaving there with anything less than gold," Eaton said. "After the game, it was one of those feelings that you wanted to cry, but the tears just wouldn't come out."
