EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern sophomore center Brandon Vitabile (Edison, N.J./Bishop Ahr) has been named to college football's Rimington Award Watch List, presented annually to the nation's most outstanding center. Vitabile is one of six Big Ten Conference centers to be recognized on the preseason watch list.

Vitabile started all 13 games as a redshirt freshman for the Wildcats, helping NU post the fifth-best rushing attack in the Big Ten last season. After going without a 300-yard rushing game since 2005, Northwestern achieved the feat twice in 2011 (320 vs. Eastern Illinois, 317 at Indiana) and also followed the O-line's lead to 207 yards on the ground in the win over Nebraska on Nov. 5.

Vitabile is the most recent in a long line of accomplished NU centers, which recently has included three-time Rimington Award nominee Ben Burkett and All-Big Ten performers Trevor Rees and Austin King.
