EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Big Ten home opener versus the Ohio State Buckeyes has been selected for either an ABC split-national or ESPN2 national telecast, announced today by the Conference office.

This year, the Big Ten is televising no fewer than five games in "prime time" on a national or split-national basis. One year ago, the Wildcats and Buckeyes played a rare Saturday evening Big Ten game on ESPN. That game was the highest-rated (2.62) Big Ten telecast on ESPN during the 2001 season.

This year's Northwestern-Ohio State game, scheduled to be played at Ryan Field on Oct. 5, will either kick off at 2:30 p.m. (ABC) or 6 p.m. (ESPN2). Most likely, the decision will be made by the Big Ten office and the networks 12 days prior to the game.

Northwestern has also announced that its second nonconference road game of the year, Sept. 21 at Navy, will start at noon (EDT).
