    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Athletics, the Big Ten Conference and the ABC/ESPN family of networks announced Monday that the Wildcats' 2013 Big Ten-opener against Ohio State will be played in primetime at Ryan Field on Saturday, Oct. 5.

    The game, which will host Northwestern's annual Homecoming festivities, will kick off at 7 p.m. CT and be televised nationally either on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.

    "After hosting night games each of the last three years at Ryan Field, it's clear that the primetime kickoff is something that players, fans and the community have truly embraced," said Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips. "Combine that with the national exposure that comes along with a primetime television slot, and this really is an exciting announcement for Northwestern fans everywhere."

    "Wildcats fans and alumni returning to Evanston for Homecoming are going to experience an electric atmosphere at Ryan Field when we take on Ohio State in our Big Ten opener," said Pat Fitzgerald, who is entering his eighth season as the head coach of Northwestern. "The excitement that comes with running out on their home field for a primetime game in front of a packed house is something our young men will remember well after their playing careers are finished."



    Season tickets for the 2013 Northwestern Football season are the optimal way to guarantee a seat for all seven games at Ryan Field this upcoming season. Tickets may be purchased via's online ticket center or by speaking with a ticket sales representative by calling 888-GO-PURPLE.

    Season tickets for NU's seven-game home schedule begin at $152 for adults -- a 51-percent savings off single-game ticket prices -- and $99 for youths.

    The Wildcats are coming off a 10-win season, capped by a victory in the 2013 Gator Bowl and top-20 year-end rankings in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches Polls.
