    Owls Rally Past Northwestern, 40-34

    Evanston, Ill. - Michael Perry scored three times, including a seven-yard touchdown run with 84 seconds left, propeling Rice to a 40-34 win over Northwestern.

    Northwestern (2-1) trailed 34-24 in the fourth quarter. But Adrian Autry scored from 10 yards out and Brian Gowins added a 47-yard field goal, tying the game with 6:47 to play.

    Perry, who ran for a score from five yards in the first quarter, also caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from Chad Nelson less than two minutes into the second half.

    Nelson rushed 25 times for 163 yards and completed three of four passes for 78 yards for Rice (2-1, 0-1 WAC), which improved to 4-0 all-time against Northwestern.

    Tim Hughes tossed a 44-yard scoring pass to Brian Musso in the first quarter and added a 24-yard scoring strike to John Burden midway through the third quarter for Nortwestern.

    Brian Marshall scored on a 17-yard touchdown run for the Wildcats. Benji Wood scored from one-yard out for Rice.
