Jeff Genyk is in his fifth season under Randy Walker as the Wildcats' running backs coach. He also serves as the program's recruiting coordinator. Genyk, who turns 43 in August, began his full-time assistant coaching duties at Northwestern in 1994, and has been on the NU staff since 1992. From the spring of 1994 to December of 1996, Genyk served as NU's coordinator of football operations. In that position, he was involved in the recruiting process and all activities which pertained to football operations. Prior to that, Genyk spent two seasons as a graduate assistant on the Wildcat coaching staff. In that capacity, he worked with the defense, concentrating his efforts on the secondary. In 2000, Genyk oversaw Damien Anderson's run into the record books. Anderson ended the season with a school-record 2,063 yards -- his second season over the 1,000-yard mark. As a team, the Wildcats rushed for 3,062 yards to set a school record. Last year, Genyk helped produce another 1,000-yard rusher, Jason Wright. Wright went on to earn honorable mention All-Big Ten and first-team Verizon Academic All-America honors. In December of 1996, prior to the Wildcats' appearance in the Citrus Bowl, Genyk was elevated to inside linebacker coach. Before the 1997 season, he made the switch to outside linebackers coach. In 1998, Genyk was in charge of the Wildcat safeties. Genyk received his master's in education from Northwestern in 1994. He also has a master's in business. Genyk came to Northwestern after serving one season as an assistant coach at Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College where he tutored the quarterbacks and wide receivers. He spent the 1989 season as a part-time assistant coach at Saginaw (Mich.) High School. As an undergraduate, Genyk played quarterback for the Bowling Green Falcons from 1978-81. Prior to his return to coaching, he worked in private business. Genyk resides in Evanston with his wife, Lisa, and their 3-year-old son, Jake.
