    Clay Bignell joined Northwestern as a defensive graduate assistant in May, 2014, arriving in Evanston following a one-year stint as a defensive intern at his alma mater, Montana State.

    Bignell's duties during the 2013 campaign included significant work on video breakdown, scouting and practice preparation for his fellow defensive coaches, helping the Bobcats to a 7-5 season.

    A linebacker from Helena Capital High School in Montana, Bignell won a pair of Big Sky Championships with the Bobcats during his playing days and served as a team captain. He was a second-team All-Big Sky Conference selection as a sophomore when he registered 21 total tackles with 5.5 TFLs, and as a senior led MSU to a 10-3 record.

    Bignell graduated from Montana State with a degree in business.
