Gowins Kicks Last-Second FG to Lift 'Cats to Big Ten Title

    Wildcats 27
    Purdue 24

Northwestern locked up what turned out to be it's second-consecutive Big Ten title and Jan. 1 bowl game with an exciting, 27-24, win over Purdue.

With the game tied at 24, Northwestern recovered a critical fumble with just two minutes remaining. After driving into Purdue territory on the strength of Darnell Autry's running, Brian Gowins nailed a 32-yard field goal with just four seconds left to give NU the win. Autry rushed for 112 yards and two TDs and D'Wayne Bates had seven catches for 99 yards and a score. The 'Cats had to wait a week, but when Michigan defeated Ohio State the next Saturday, Northwestern was Big Ten Champions for the second-straight year.
