Northwestern rebounded from the Penn State loss with a 40-13 victory at Iowa. The win marked their first in Kinnick Stadium since 1971.

After a Brian Gowins field goal, NU broke out the trick play book as D'Wayne Bates took a lateral from Steve Schnur and found Darren Drexler wide open for a touchdown. Gowins added another field goal as the first half expired to give NU a 13-7 lead. Darnell Autry then took over, scoring on runs of nine and 41 yards and catching a 15-yard pass to give the 'Cats a 33-13 cushion. He would add one more on an 18-yard rush to finish off the Hawkeyes.

Autry finished with a career-high 241 yards and four touchdowns and earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors. Barry Gardner once again led the defense with nine tackles.
