    Another Game, Another Comeback Victory

    For the third time in four weeks, Northwestern scored the go-ahead points in the final minute as they knocked off Illinois, 27-24.

    Adrian Autry, getting his first collegiate start in place of the injured Darnell Autry, gave NU a 7-3 lead after the first quarter. D'Wayne Bates hauled in a 30-yard scoring strike from Steve Schnur just before halftime to cut the Illini lead to 17-14. Brian Gowins kicked two third-quarter field goal to give the Wildcats a 20-17 lead heading into the fourth stanza. Illinois regained the lead, 24-27, before Autry dove across from one-yard out with just 1:02 left to extend NU's Big Ten winning streak to 13 games.

    Adrian Autry had 128 yards rushing, his first career 100-yard game, and two touchdowns to earn Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. Bates narrowly missed his fifth-straight 100-yard receiving game with 99 yards and a score. Steve Schnur had his fifth-straight 200-yard game with 258 yards and a touchdown. Barry Gardner registered 12 tackles, a sack, an interception and a pass broken up.
