    Darnell Autry rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns and Northwestern piled up nearly 400 yards of total offense. However, it wasn't enough as Wake Forest upset the 'Cats 28-27.

    Wake Forest jumped out to a 10-0 first quarter lead, but Northwestern fought back on two Darnell Autry touchdown runs to take a 17-13 advantage after three quarters. The 'Cats extended the lead to 24-13 early in the fourth quarter when Steve Schnur hooked up with D'Wayne Bates on a 32-yard touchdown pass. Another Wake Forest touchdown and Brian Gowins' second field goal made the score 27-21, but Wake Forest found the end zone with just 51 seconds left to seal the 28-27 win.

    Autry's performance marked the 14th-straight game in which he rushed for over 100 yards. Steve Schnur passed for 218 yards and a score, and D'Wayne Bates had seven catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. Pat Fitzgerald made 12 tackles, 10 of which were solo stops, to lead the defense.
