EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern looks to run its season-opening winning streak to three on Sunday as it hosts Fairleigh Dickinson at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
The contest is affiliated with the South Padre Island Invitational. The Wildcats will also host Delaware State on Tuesday before making the trek to Texas to take on TCU on Friday and either Illinois State or UAB on Saturday.
Northwestern held off a charge from Mississippi Valley State to post an 81-68 home win on Thursday. SCOUTING FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON
The Knights (0-1) are playing just their second game of the season after falling 117-75 at Xavier on Nov. 9. Lonnie Robinson led Fairleigh Dickinson with 20 points.
FDU posted a 3-26 record last season, including a 2-16 mark in Northeast Conference play. Senior guard Melquan Bolding was the team's leading scorer a year ago, averaging 15.1 points per game.
Greg Vetrone is in his fourth season as head coach at Fairleigh Dickinson, including serving as the interim head coach during the 2009-10 campaign. He is 19-71 in his four years at the helm of the Knights.
BESTING THEIR BEST
Seniors Reggie Hearn and Jared Swopshire each posted career-best point totals in Thursday's win over Mississippi Valley State. Hearn's team-high 23 points topped his previous best of 20 points in a win at Illinois Feb. 5, 2012. Swopshire's previous career-high point total was 15 against St. John's on Jan. 9, 2010 while he was playing for Louisville. He knocked down five of his 3-point attempts in the victory over the Delta Devils. During the entire 2011-12 season at Louisville, Swopshire made five of 24 attempts from 3-point territory.
DISHING IT OUT
Sophomore Dave Sobolewski has been in a giving mood through the Wildcats' first two games. The point guard handed out a career-best nine assists in Northwestern's season-opening win over Texas Southern on Tuesday and then followed it up with eight helpers in Thursday's win over Mississippi Valley State. Sobolewski has 17 assists to just two turnovers through NU's first two games. A year ago, he led the Big Ten and paced all nation's freshmen with a 2.63 assist-to-turnover ratio.
The Wildcats have found the month of November to their liking. Northwestern has won its last 17 games in the month of November, the fourth-longest streak in the nation. Only Syracuse (28), UNLV (20) and Indiana (18) have longer active winning streaks in the month.
Northwestern wraps up its season-opening four-game homestand on Tuesday as it takes on Delaware State. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
