EVANSTON, Ill. - Season tickets are now on sale for the upcoming 2011-12 Northwestern men's basketball season.

The Wildcats welcome back four starters and nine letterwinners overall from last year's squad which posted its second consecutive 20-win season and made its third straight postseason appearance.

Led by senior forward John Shurna, a Sporting News preseason second-team All-America selection, the 'Cats have 16 regular-season games and one exhibition game on tap for Welsh-Ryan Arena this season. The slate is highlighted by a nonconference visit from preseason top-15 team Baylor as well as an always-challenging Big Ten schedule.

Northwestern has posted a 41-12 home record over the last three seasons, including a 38-3 mark against unranked opponents over that span. Five of the Wildcats' nonconference opponents (Baylor, Creighton, Central Connecticut State, Mississippi Valley State, Stony Brook) are picked to win their respective conferences this season according to various preseason publications, while NU could face a sixth if it squares off against 2011 NCAA Final Four participant VCU in the Charleston Classic.

"The support of our fans has made Welsh-Ryan Arena a difficult place to play over the years and they are a huge part of our success," Northwestern head coach Bill Carmody said. "I really like the team that we have coming back and we have a strong slate of games on this year's schedule. The fact that we could play six teams that have been picked to finish first in their league coupled with the Big Ten being one of the toughest conferences in the nation should provide a challenging test for us."

Lower and upper level purple preferred season tickets are sold out, but regular reserved seats are affordably priced at $224, a 47 percent savings off individual game ticket prices. Northwestern faculty and staff season tickets cost $192 (55 percent savings), while NU young alumni and graduate student seats are just $119 (72 percent savings).

Season ticket holders have the opportunity to purchase additional individual game tickets prior to them being released to the general public.
