EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern will play five games on the ESPN family of networks during the upcoming 2014 Big Ten Conference season announced today. The Wildcats also have a pair of late-season wild card dates with the potential of having those contests televised by CBS.

Tip times for the majority of Northwestern's nonconference games also have been announced. Television designations for nonconference games that have not been previously announced as well as league contests being broadcast by Big Ten Network are being released at a later date.

NU opens up its league slate at home Jan. 2 as it takes on Wisconsin in a matchup that is being televised by ESPN2. The 'Cats hit the road for the next two contests, traveling to Michigan Jan. 5 and then Iowa Jan. 9. The contest against the Hawkeyes is the first of four Northwestern conference games that are being broadcast by ESPNU.

The Wildcats return to Welsh-Ryan Arena Jan. 12 as they take on Illinois in the only regular-season matchup between the teams this season. A third consecutive home game against 2013 NCAA Tournament teams is set for three days later as Michigan State comes to Evanston.

A Saturday matinee is on tap for Jan. 18 when NU travels to Bloomington to square off against reigning Big Ten co-champion Indiana. Northwestern heads home for the next two contests, challenging Purdue Jan. 21 before concluding its season series with Iowa Jan. 25.

The 'Cats head north for their next two games, facing Wisconsin in a mid-week tilt before traveling to Minnesota for their first matchup of the year against the Golden Gophers to ring in the month of February.

NU alternates home and road contests throughout the entire second half of the conference season. Following a mid-week bye, NU is back home Feb. 8 to square off with Nebraska prior to a trip to Michigan State the following Thursday.

An early Sunday evening home matchup with Minnesota Feb. 16 precedes the team's lone meeting with Ohio State in Columbus three days later. The Wildcats' first wild card contest is at home against Indiana either Feb. 22 or 23 before Northwestern plays Nebraska at the brand-new Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln March 1. Both contests between the Wildcats and the Cornhuskers in 2014 are being televised by ESPNU.

NU remains on "the U" March 6 as it finally meets up with Penn State on Senior Night at Welsh-Ryan before closing out the regular season with another wild card contest at Purdue March 8 or 9.

Following last year's event at the United Center in Chicago, the Big Ten tournament returns to Indianapolis in 2014 from March 13-16.
