EVANSTON, Ill. -
Northwestern will host Maryland Tuesday, Nov. 27 at Welsh-Ryan Arena in the 2012 ACC/Big Ten Challenge Presented by Dick's Sporting Goods.
Game times and television designations are being announced at a later date. All 12 Challenge games are being televised by ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.
It will be just the second all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Terrapins. NU won the only previous matchup 66-62 Dec. 6, 1958. Footage of that contest can be found on the Northwestern University YouTube page.
Northwestern has won each of its last four ACC/Big Ten Challenge matchups, including posting a 76-60 victory over Georgia Tech in Atlanta last season. The Wildcats join Ohio State as the only Big Ten teams to win Challenge games four consecutive years. Coupled with a victory over Boston College in the 2011 National Invitation Tournament, Northwestern has won its last five games against ACC opponents.
NU is 6-7 in its previous 13 contests in the event. The six victories rank as a tie for the most of any Big Ten team in Challenge history.
The Wildcats return seven letterwinners and a trio of redshirts from last year's squad that went 19-14 overall and 8-10 against Big Ten foes. Northwestern advanced to postseason play for the fourth consecutive season before being knocked out of the NIT by Washington in the second round.
Maryland posted a 17-15 overall record a year ago, including a 6-10 mark in ACC play. Rising sophomore guard Nick Faust is the team's top returning scorer, averaging 8.9 points per game in 2011-12.
Northwestern's win over Georgia Tech last season helped the Big Ten win the Commissioner's Cup with the Challenge victory for the third consecutive season.
