EVANSTON, Ill. -- After turning in a pair of undeniably strong performances in Northwestern's road wins at No. 14/13 Wisconsin and Minnesota, redshirt senior Drew Crawford has been named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. It is the third such honor of his storied career.
The Naperville, Ill., native averaged 23.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and three assists in NU's victories over the Badgers and Gophers. Crawford shot a combined 66.7 percent (16-of-24) from the field in the two games and an eye-popping 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from beyond the arc.
Crawford played all 40 minutes against Wisconsin and poured in a season-high 30 points, adding eight rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal in Northwestern's victory at the Kohl Center on Wednesday, January 29. The scoring performance marked the third time in his career that he contributed 30-or-more points in a game for the 'Cats.
Crawford followed up Wednesday's superb effort with a game-high 17 points, four rebounds and three helpers in Northwestern's one-point victory at The Barn in Minneapolis.
Northwestern's co-captain is averaging 16.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season, both of which lead the squad. Crawford is currently the only hoopster in the Big Ten to rank in the top 10 in both of those categories.
This is the third weekly honor from the Big Ten that Crawford has received. He was also named the conference's Player of the Week on Nov. 21, 2011 after bringing home MVP honors at the Charleston Classic and on Dec. 14, 2009 after setting a program record by scoring 35 points as a freshman in a victory over North Carolina A&T.
NU's last Big Ten Player of the Week was John Shurna
(Feb. 6, 2012). Crawford shares the weekly Big Ten honor with D.J. Newbill of Penn State.
The Wildcats, winners of four of their last five games, will be idle until Saturday, Feb. 8 when they host the Nebraska Cornhuskers at noon inside Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tickets are available by calling 888-GO-PURPLE (467-8775) or visiting the ticket page on NUsports.com.
