    Northwestern vs. Baylor
    Dec. 4, 2011

    Northwestern Head Coach Bill Carmody

    Opening Statement:
"Well, that was about as bad as you can play, offensively and defensively. We weren't able to stop them and couldn't put the ball in the basket, and they had a lot to do with that. We knew they'd be playing zone. I told our guys that you're going to be getting shots that we think they'll be open, but they'll be in different spots. We can't really diagram exactly where they'll be coming from, but we should get some pretty good looks. And I thought we did actually, but I'll look at it. We should have been taking shots rather than driving it into their strength. Hey average 7 or 8 blocks a game, and I'm sure they got that tonight. That's a good team. We ran into a buzz saw. I thought we were prepared, but I guess they were more prepared."

On if there were any positives to take away from the game:
"No, I didn't see too much that I liked out there. I just mentioned that (Pat) Fitzgerald, the coach of the football team, always says 'just flush that.' I don't really like it. It's a little too graphic for me, but I think that's what we have to do in this one."

On where the team is at now:
"We got smacked pretty good. I don't think we're that bad and maybe that's good. That's only the second zone we've seen for extended periods of time, and so you have to spend more time on it. And clearly have to get something inside. The other night we got 18 points out of our center, and Luka's (Mirkovic) been scoring around, but we got nothing tonight. We missed a lot of shots. Guys weren't making shots. I said it after the game. We made 20 3s (Friday) and like I say, 'I hope we're not using them up for Sunday,' and I think we did."

    Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew

On if the team is living up to expectations so far...
"I think we will be a much better team come February than we are right now... As long as we play hard, stay unselfish, and defend then good things can happen. As a coach I am really blessed. People say how do you manage a lot of guys who could have egos or what ever but they are good kids and I think they buy into the team."

    On his team's defense...
"To Northwestern's credit I think this is a team that is going to have a lot of success in the Big Ten this year. I think they are going to finish their nonconference very well. They are off to a great start. They missed some shots early that were some good looks and our defense got better as the game went on. This team is a very good team and I don't want to put any pressure on them but from what I've seen this is the best Northwestern team I've seen so hopefully they finish well."
