Northwestern vs. Maryland
November 27, 2012
Northwestern Head Coach Bill Carmody
"I have to give Maryland credit, they came in here and played pretty much an even game in the first half and then really stuck it to us in the second half. We were disappointed; we forced a lot of turnovers in the first half and were only down two at half. We really should have been up but we didn't shoot the ball well either. I thought we were shooting the ball too quickly and tried to address that a few times but it didn't really take. We have a good shooting team and were open, they just weren't going down. Then in the second half we basically didn't guard them, and our offense was pretty much the same."
On the team's rebounding struggles...
"The difference was about 15 at half and I attribute a lot of it to us being 3-of-16 from three and not really giving ourselves a chance to get to the offensive boards. We've had a few pretty good offensive rebounding games this year, we just missed a lot of shots today."
On Maryland being a formidable opponent...
"Well we had a lot of veterans out there but we've been struggling to get in tempo. I thought if we ran through our stuff we would get some easy baskets but we were just too quick. We needed to make them guard us because they have some guys that I think we could've taken advantage of."
On Alex Olah's play...
"It was a tough matchup but this is what he signed up for. We know he's going to have those kinds of days but he's going to be okay. We just have to keep working and the way our schedule has been it's been really tough to practice to be honest. We'll work really hard on Thursday on our own stuff and then prepare for UIC on Friday."
On what he takes from the loss...
"Well we have to be able to play with these guys, especially at home, but we'll come back out and work hard and get this thing turned around."
