    Wildcats Win Final Exhibition Game

    EVANSTON, Ill. - Preseason All-American center Evan Eschmeyer scored 28 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out five assists as Northwestern pulled away in the second half for a 82-60 victory over Ural Great Russia in an exhibition game at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

    Trailing 4-3, Northwestern went on a 9-0 run to grab the lead and they never trailed again. Freshman David Newman and Eschmeyer combined for seven of the nine points in the burst. The Wildcats upped the lead to 10 points twice in the first half, but settled for a 38-34 lead at intermission. Newman connected on all five of his first half field goal attempts, including four from downtown, and led the Cats with 15 first half points.

    The Wildcats used a 12-2 run at the outset of the second half to seize command, outscoring the Ural Greats 44-26 in the second half. Freshman Tavaras Hardy scored 12 of his 15 points after halftime and Eschmeyer connected on all five of his field goal attempts in the second half to spur the onslaught. The Cats shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half.

    Newman had an excellent all-around game, handing out six assists and grabbing five rebounds to go with his 25 points. Roman Dvinianinov led Ural Great Russia, who shot only 34 percent for the game, with 18 points.
