    Postgame Quotes

    Northwestern Head Coach Bill Carmody

    On the game...
"I liked how we took care of the basketball tonight. That was the main thing...A lot of different guys contributed and it was a real nice team victory, I thought."

    On Dave Sobolewski's performance...
"The last few games he's played very, very well, taking care of the ball again and doing the right things. I'm coaching that kid hard because you can. He's one of those guys that I was on a couple of times, but I thought his decision-making was very, very good. You can coach him hard, he snarls at you every once and while and all that but in a good way. He's a competitor and he listens. I like the way he played in the last few games and I hope he can continue that."

    On the team's confidence...
"I think we've played decently the whole year, to tell you the truth. Starting down in Charleston, we've had some rough games on the road and we lost some real heartbreakers but I think it's a good team. Now we have to play two games on the road, so we'll see...We just have to go on a little run here."

    Iowa Head Coach Fran McCaffery

    On the team's defensive gameplan...
"Well he's (Northwestern head coach Bill Carmody) been playing the smaller lineup a lot more. It's a tough lineup to match up to. They got some drivers. They got plenty of shooters. We play more of a traditional lineup. Somebody that's not used to guarding a guy like [John] Shurna is going end up on Shurna right off the bat. Somebody that's not used to guarding a guy like [Alex] Marcotullio, that's who he's gonna end up on. That's why we mixed in some zone in the second half, to keep us in our traditional spot."

On struggling against Northwestern's 1-3-1 defense...
"We worked on it for three days and really did a pretty good job of attacking it. It's different when you get out there. They play it very well. We had some opportunities, especially early I thought. We didn't shoot it that well. We didn't get anything near the basket."

    On the team's road troubles...
"I think, legitimately, there's going be a common trend. We're not executing defensively at the level that we need to to win. I don't think it's any more complicated than that. Pretty simple."
