2014 NU Baseball Schedule
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach Paul Stevens, who will be at the helm for his 27th season this spring, unveiled the competitive 2014 schedule that his Wildcats will face beginning February 14.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will lift the lid on the new season with a three-game series against the USC Trojans at Dedeaux Field in Los Angeles Feb. 14-16. After opening the season on one end of the country, the 'Cats will head to the other as they venture to Port Charlotte, Fla. for the Snowbird Classic, Feb. 21-23. Northwestern will play Kansas, Mississippi Valley State, Nebraska-Omaha and Ball State in its first of three trips to the Sunshine State.
The Wildcats are slated to make their local debut on Tuesday, Feb. 25 when they take on the UIC Flames at newly renovated Curtis Granderson Stadium on Chicago's Near West Side. The following weekend NU will play Tennessee Tech in a three-game series that starts on Feb. 28 before heading back to Florida to face the South Florida Bulls in Tampa, March 7-9. The 'Cats finish their stint in Florida with a quartet of games between March 13-15 at the RussMatt Invitational in Winter Haven. NU's game times and opponents for the RussMatt tournament will be announced at a later date.
Northwestern opens its 24-game Big Ten slate with a three-game series against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on March 21. The series against the Maroon and Gold also marks the first of 21 games at Rocky Miller Park this spring.
Stevens and his crew will play games at Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan on March 25 and March 26, respectively, before making its first trip to Happy Valley since the 2010 campaign for a conference set against Penn State to close out the month.
The 'Cats return to Rocky Miller Park to face Western Michigan and open a season-long nine-game homestand on Wednesday, April 2. Northwestern will also play three-game sets against B1G rivals Illinois (April 4-6) and Iowa (April 11-13), as well as single games against Horizon League clubs Valparaiso (April 8) and Milwaukee (April 15).
NU will visit Chicago State on April 16 before traveling to Lincoln, Nebraska for a second-consecutive year to play a three-game set at Hawks Field against the Huskers beginning April 18. The Wildcats head back home for a pair of midweek games against Wheaton and Chicago State before jumping back on the road to tangle with the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing, Mich., April 25-27.
After playing Northern Illinois in Crestwood, Ill. on April 30, the Wildcats will return to Rocky Miller Park for their final Big Ten home series against Michigan from May 2-4. The 'Cats will play host to the University of Chicago on May 6 and travel to UIC for the second of two meetings this year on May 7.
The home schedule concludes with a three-game set against the SIU Edwardsville Cougars, May 9-11. Northwestern's eight-member senior class will be honored during the finale on Sunday, May 11.
Northwestern will wrap up the 2014 regular season with three games in Columbus, Ohio against the Ohio State Buckeyes between May 15-17.
Omaha, Nebraska is not only the regular site of the NCAA College World Series, but it will also serve as the host city for the 2014 Big Ten Tournament. The six-team tournament will be held at TD Ameritrade Park beginning on May 21. The NCAA Regionals will be held May 30-June 2 with the Super Regionals to follow June 6-9. The 2014 CWS is slated for June 14-25.
