June 8, 2007 EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior Caleb Fields (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) was chosen for the 2007 Major League Baseball Amateur draft today. Fields, an Oak Park High School product, was a 33rd round (996th overall) selection by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Fields is the 55th Wildcat in school history to be drafted and the 43rd under head coach Paul Stevens. Fields started in 53 games and was NU's most versatile athlete. He made 29 starts at second base, 15 in center field, eight in left field and one at third base. Using his athleticism to play all over the field, he also excelled at the plate. Fields hit .322 overall and.331 in Big Ten play. Fields ends his four-year career with a .310 batting average in 636 at-bats. He totaled 197 hits, including 26 doubles, seven home runs and three triples. He drove in 94 runs and scored 101 runs.
