EVANSTON, Ill. -
Northwestern senior catcher Chad Noble (Rockwall, Texas/Rockwall) has been added to watch list for the 2010 Coleman Company - Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John's Pizza. The award honors the nation's top collegiate backstop.
Noble currently leads the Wildcats with a .392 batting average, a .576 slugging percentage and 29 runs scored. He leads the team with four triples and ranks second with nine doubles, 20 RBI. Noble has also been stellar behind the plate as he has thrown out 13 of 28 baserunners attempting to steal.
He ranks tied for third in the Big Ten in triples and seventh in batting average. Noble's current 12-game hitting streak is the longest by any Northwestern player this season.
The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, whom will be announced May 19, 2010. Ballots will be sent to the national voting panel at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 2, 2010 prior to the NCAA Regionals and Major League Baseball Draft.
A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 13th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on July 1, 2010.
Noble's efforts have helped Northwestern (15-23, 7-5 Big Ten) occupy a tie for first place in the Big Ten standings. The Wildcats return to action Wednesday as they take on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a doubleheader at Miller Park in Milwaukee. The first game is slated to get underway at approximately 4 p.m., following the completion of the game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
