    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern plays its second straight weekend series on the road as it travels to Michigan for a three-game Big Ten set. Friday's scheduled series-opener has been postponed due to rain. The teams will now open their series with a doubleheader beginning at noon Central time Saturday. The series finale is slated for noon on Sunday.

    The Wildcats (11-22, 3-9 Big Ten) got back on the winning track with a 4-3 home win in 11 innings over Milwaukee on Tuesday. Kyle Ruchim's squeeze bunt with the bases loaded and no one out plated Zach Morton with the winning run. Michael Jahns tossed 4 1/3 innings of relief with seven strikeouts to earn the win.

     

     

    Northwestern dropped all three games at Minnesota last weekend, including 2-1 decisions in each of the first two contests.

    Northwestern's pitching staff has been more than holding its own in Big Ten play. NU's staff ranks third in conference play with a 3.55 ERA and is tied for first with 88 strikeouts. Freshman right-hander Brandon Magallones leads the league with 28 strikeouts against Big Ten foes, while Francis Brooke's 12 strikeouts looking also rank first.

    Scouting Michigan
    The Wolverines (16-22, 3-6 Big Ten) suffered a 7-2 home loss to Eastern Michigan Wednesday night. Michigan dropped two of three games at Penn State last weekend. Michael O'Neill leads the team with a .322 batting average and nine doubles. Coley Crank is first on the squad with seven home runs and 28 RBI. Patrick Biondi paces the Big Ten with 24 stolen bases. On the mound, Brandon Sinnery leads the team's starters with a 3-3 record and a 3.96 ERA.

    Last Season: NU won both games against Michigan in Evanston, posting a 7-1 victory May 13 before pounding out 20 hits in an 11-6 win May 14. The final game of the series was canceled due to rain.

    Up Next...
    Northwestern plays a total of five home games next week beginning with a contest at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Chicago State. The Wildcat host North Central at the same time on Wednesday before opening a three-game series with Illinois on Friday.
