EVANSTON, Ill. -- A soft surface at Rocky Miller Park and the threat of rain for Wednesday, April 2 has forced the cancellation of the scheduled nonconference baseball game between Northwestern and Western Michigan.

According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday's forecast for Evanston calls for a 60 percent chance of rain, mainly in the afternoon. The high temperature is only expected to reach 37 degrees.

This is the second time in a week that the Broncos and 'Cats have been unable to meet on the diamond. NU was slated to travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. on Tuesday, March 25 during its spring break trip, but frigid temperatures and an unplayable surface led to that cancellation.

Northwestern will now begin its eight-game homestand at Rocky Miller Park on Friday, April 4 when Big Ten rival Illinois makes the trip north on I-57 for a three-game series. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. The second game of the series will be played on Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m. before wrapping up on Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. Sunday's series finale will be televised live on the Big Ten Network and is the first of five network television appearances for the Wildcats this spring.
