    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern and Nebraska square off for the first time as Big Ten foes as the Wildcats open their home season with a three-game series with the Cornhuskers at Rocky Miller Park.

    Friday's series-opener gets underway at 3 p.m., while first pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For a full list of the weekend's promotions, visit the Promotions page.

    The 'Cats got stellar starting pitching but had to settle for only one win to open their Big Ten season at Iowa last weekend. NU's starters allowed just two earned runs in the three contests, posting a miniscule 0.70 ERA. Right-hander Brandon Magallones was named Big Ten Co-Pitcher and Co-Freshman of the Week after posting seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts in Saturday's 3-0 win for the Wildcats. Freshman outfielder Walker Moses paced Northwestern at the plate, going 6-for-12 with two doubles and two RBI.



    In addition to Magallones' outing, Francis Brooke didn't allow a hit until there was one out in the sixth inning on Friday and Zach Morton didn't surrender an earned run while striking out eight in Sunday's finale.

    Scouting Nebraska
    The Cornhuskers (18-9, 2-1 Big Ten) took two of three games from Illinois at home in their first-ever Big Ten series last weekend. Nebraska also posted a 6-3 home win over Kansas State on Tuesday. Nebraska far and away leads the league with 225 runs scored and 26 home runs and is second with a .327 team batting average. Michael Pritchard is second in the conference with a .398 batting average, while Chad Christensen is fourth at .387 with a league-high 33 RBI.

    Series History: Northwestern leads 4-2. The teams are meeting for the first time since the 2004 season.

    Magallones Earns a Pair of Big Ten Accolades
    Right-hander Brandon Magallones was tabbed the Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week and Co-Freshman of the Week March 26 after tossing seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts in a 3-0 win at Iowa March 24. The nine Ks matched his career high also achieved against Long Island March 18. He's the first NU player to by named Pitcher of the Week since Luke Farrell April 25, 2011.

    Rough On the Huskers
    Though Northwestern and Nebraska are meeting on the diamond for the first time since Nebraska joined the Big Ten, a number Wildcat teams have already posted memorable wins over Husker squads this season. The first came Nov. 5 when the Northwestern football team went into Lincoln and posted a 28-25 victory over No. 9 Nebraska. The second big win came Nov. 26 when the NU volleyball team took down the second-ranked and Big Ten champion Huskers in four sets in Evanston (25-20, 9-25, 25-21, 25-23). The Wildcats' men's basketball team posted an 84-74 win in the only meeting between the squads Feb. 2, while the women's team earned a 63-51 win over the 16th-ranked Huskers in Lincoln Feb. 16.
