EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior infielder Kyle Ruchim and sophomore starting pitcher Brandon Magallones have been named to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-Big Ten team, the web site announced Thursday.

Ruchim did a little bit of everything for the Wildcats in 2012. As one of two players to start all 54 games, he batted .289 while leading the team with 12 doubles and ranking second with 26 RBI. Ruchim also belted three home runs and led Northwestern with 10 stolen bases.

The Buffalo Grove, Ill., native also served as NU's primary closer out of the bullpen. Ruchim converted seven saves last season and fanned 24 batters in 18.2 IP, while issuing on five walks.

Magallones led the 'Cats in both wins and strikeouts on the bump in 2012. He collected seven victories in 14 appearances and struck out 67 opposing batters along the way. The Manhattan, Ill., native became the first Wildcat since John Seaman in 1998 to open a season with five-consecutive wins.
