    Wildcats Defeat Northeastern Illinois, 6-0

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Freshman southpaw Nick Kreinbrink (Leipsic, Ohio/Leipsic) allowed just four hits in five innings as Northwestern defeated Northeastern Illinois in a rain-shortened game on Wednesday afternoon, 6-0. NU improves to 14-7 overall while Northeastern Illinois falls to 5-13.

The 'Cats opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning on RBIs by Jeremy Kurella and Brian Baron. The lead increased to 6-0 in the second inning as the 'Cats sent nine batters to the plate. After RBI singles by Kurella and Patrick Thompson, Baron knocked a two-RBI triple to center field to give NU the six-run margin. The game was halted for 26 minutes in the fourth inning due to rain, and was stopped with NU batting in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Wildcats had the bases loaded with no outs when the game was called.

Kreinbrink earned the complete game victory, moving to 2-2 on the season. Northeast-ern Illinois starter Ryan Kvasnicka (1-2) picked up the loss. Offensively for NU, eight of the nine starters picked up at least one hit, with Kurella and Thompson each going 2-for-3. Baron added three RBIs while catcher Kevin Ciarrachi walked in each of his two plate appearances.

The Wildcats head to Champaign, Ill., this weekend for a four-game series against the Illinois Fighting Illini.
