Wildcat Baseball Earns Split with Ohio State
Seaman Now 6-0 on the Season
EVANSTON, Ill. -- John Seaman allowed just three earned runs in eight
innings and Brian Baron had a two-RBI triple off the center field wall in
the seventh inning as Northwestern defeated Ohio State on Sunday at Rocky
Miller Park, 6-4. The 'Cats and Buckeyes split the weekend series, 2-2.
NU improves to 13-7, 2-2 Big Ten, while OSU drops to 14-6, 2-2 Big
Ten.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the second inning as Kris Musselman
dropped a Texas Leaguer into left field, scoring Ollie Dunn for a 1-0 lead.
OSU tied the game in the third and took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning as
Jason Turner's sacrifice fly brought home Jason Trott, who had tripled
earlier.
NU recaptured the lead in the sixth inning as Joe Hietpas' two-RBI double
brought home Baron and Patrick Thompson for a 3-2 lead. OSU tied the
game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh on an unearned run before Baron's
triple in the bottom of the seventh gave NU the lead for good.
Seaman earned the victory, improving to 6-0 on the season. Buckeye
starter Andy Lee (4-1) took the loss while Charlie Williamson pitched a
scoreless ninth inning for his second save of the season.
Northwestern is home Tuesday and Wednesday to face UW-Milwaukee and
Northeastern Illinois. The 'Cats travel to Champaign next weekend for a
four-game series at Illinois.
