    Wildcat Baseball Falls to Stetson, 16-4

    Kurella Hits Fourth Triple in the Loss

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Stetson used a nine-run sixth inning and pounded out 18 hits to defeat Northwestern on Tuesday night in DeLand, Fla., 16-4. The Wildcats drop to 10-5 on the season while Stetson is now 14-15-1. The two-game series concludes on Wednesday night. NU then faces Ohio State in the 1998 home opener Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. NU held a 2-1 lead after three innings on Tuesday, scoring twice in the third inning on an RBI double by J.P. Williamson, who was driven in by Jeremy Kurella. Stetson reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning, scoring four times with two outs in the inning for a 5-2 lead. The Hatters then scored nine in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. The Wildcats scored twice in the eighth inning on an RBI triple by Kurella and an sac fly by Mike Adams. Bradenton, Fla., native Wes Robinson pitched the ninth inning for the Wildcats, striking out three of the four batters he faced. Designated hitter Patrick Thompson was the lone Wildcat to record multiple hits, going 2-for-3. Kurella went 1-for-4 with two RBIs while J.P. Williamson extended his hitting streak to 12 games with his third-inning double. Kurella's triple in the eighth inning was his fourth of the season, which leads the Big Ten Conference. Freshman southpaw Nick Kreinbrink (1-2) took the loss for NU, allowing nine hits and five runs in five innings.
