NU Falls in Bottom of the Ninth to Lions
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Southeastern Louisiana center fielder Joe Labruzzo
knocked a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the
Lions a 5-4, come-from-behind victory over Northwestern at the
Coca-Cola Classic in Mobile, Ala. NU falls to 4-3 on the year, while SE
Louisiana is now 12-3.
The Wildcats opened with all four of their runs in the first four innings.
Patrick Thompson banged an RBI single in the top of the first and later
scored to give NU a quick 2-0 lead. The Lions got on the board with three
runs in the sixth inning off Wildcat starter Nick Franzese. Charlie
WIlliamson entered in relief in the sixth to shut the door and keep the 'Cats
in front, 4-3.
The Lions tied the game in the eighth, but left the bases loaded when J.J.
Standring came out of the bullpen and forced SLU pinch hitter Wes Theriot
to pop up and end the inning.
Seven different Wildcats had a base hit on Sunday. Brian Baron and J.P.
Williamson have now hit safely in the last four games.
