    Northwestern Baseball Defeats Grand Canyon, 11-6

    Stritch hits for the cycle for Wildcats.

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Fifth-year senior Mike Stritch hit for the cycle and sophomores Kris Musselman and Brian Baron added home runs as the NU baseball team knocked off Grand Canyon University on Saturday, 11-6.

    The Wildcats, now 2-1 on the season, close out the Rawlings Spring Training Tournament in Phoenix with a 9:30 a.m. game on Sunday against ninth-ranked Texas Tech.

    The 'Cats exploded in the sixth inning against Grand Canyon, knocking all three homers in that frame. Musselman led off the inning with a solo homer, the first of his collegiate career. Baron followed later in the inning with a two-run blast, also his first collegiate homer. Stritch promptly made it back-to-back homers for NU. It was the 25th homer of his NU career, moving Stritch past Matt Huff and Joe Girardi into sole possesion of second place on the all-time NU home run chart. Stritch's triple in the eighth inning gave hime the cycle, finishing the game 5-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBI.

    Five other Wildcats had at least two hits in the win: Jeremy Kurella (2-4, run), Baron (2-4, four runs, two RBI, homer), Patrick Thompson (2-5, two RBI), Chris Pedersen (2-5, RBI) and Musselman (2-5, homer, one RBI).

    Nick Franzese earned the win for NU, allowing five runs in nine innings. J.J. Standring pitched the ninth inning for the 'Cats.
