EVANSTON, Ill. - After Dan Brauer pitched a no-hit shutout in game one of Sunday's doubleheader, Michigan State rebounded to win game two 6-2. Starter George Kontos struck out a career-high 11 hitters, but gave up three runs in the second and sixth innings for the loss. The Wildcats scattered nine hits in the game and Caleb Fields hit his fifth home run of the season. The loss drops NU to 21-29 overall, 18-9 and a half-game back of Michigan (19-9) in the Big Ten standings.

The Spartans plated the first three of their six runs in the second inning. A leadoff double and four singles, coupled with a walk, led to the runs.

MSU scored three insurance runs in the sixth as four of the first five hitters in the inning all reached base via the base hit.

NU scored its two runs on a Caleb Fields (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) home run over the left field wall. It was his second round-tripper of the weekend.

The Wildcats and Spartans wrap up their four-game series with a single nine-inning contest at 3 p.m. Monday.
