COOKEVILLE, Tenn.-- Northwestern scored first for the second game in a row, but Tennessee Tech answered with a vengeance as it slugged its way to a 12-2 victory Saturday at Bush Stadium.

For the second day in a row, the Wildcats struck first in the top of the premiere inning. Saturday, Scott Heelan got ahold of an offering and sent it over the wall to the opposite field. It was the first home run of the season in the ninth game for Northwestern and the third in Heelan's career.

The Wildcats carried their lead into the bottom of the second when TTU struck for two runs to take the lead and not look back. The home team added two more in the third and four more in the fourth inning to take an 8-1 lead into the fifth inning.

Northwestern finally got on the scoreboard once again in the aforementioned fifth. Pinch hitter Jake Schieber was hit by a pitch to begin the inning and the sophomore made second base on a wild pitch with Josh Perlmutter at the dish. With two outs in the inning, designated hitter Jack Livingston drove in Schieber for NU's second run Saturday on a base hit up the middle.

The 'Cats used five pitchers in the game Saturday. A pair of seniors out of the bullpen, right-hander Nick Friar and left-hander Dan Tyson, tossed scoreless innings with two strikeouts apiece. Friar now owns a 2.16 ERA through five appearances on the mound for Northwestern this season.

Heelan, Livingston and Cody Stevens each collected two hits in the ballgame for the 'Cats. With three RBI in the series, Heelan leads Northwestern with eight RBI this season. For Stevens, Saturday marked his second multi-hit game of the series and the third of the season.

The series finale will get underway on Sunday, March 2 beginning at 11 a.m. Sophomore Reed Mason is scheduled to make his third start in as many weekends for NU, while TTU will likely send left-hander John Gora to the bump. Please note the start is two hours earlier than previously announced.
