    Kurella Named to Louisville Slugger's Freshman All-American Team

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Shortstop Jeremy Kurella (Dunedin, Fla./Dunedin) was named Thursday to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team, as selected by the staff of Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

    Kurella was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Year for 1998. He hit .332 and started all 53 games for the Wildcats this season, leading the team in runs scored with 42. He led the Big Ten Conference in triples (six) and assists (183) and was second in the Big Ten in double plays turned with 45.

    This is the second year in a row that a Northwestern player has been selected. Last year, outfielder Brian Baron was named to the Freshman All-American team. The Wildcats ended the 1998 season 27-26 overall, 10-18 in the Big Ten.
