EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the second time this season, Northwestern senior left fielder Mike Stritch (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) has been named Big Ten Baseball Player of the Week. In seven contests last week, six of which came on the road, Stritch hit .633 with 13 RBIs, five doubles and two homers. He had multiple RBIs, multiple hits and scored at least one run in six of the seven contests. He led NU to a four-game sweep at Iowa, the 'Cats first Big Ten series sweep since 1993. His game-by-game stats for the week appear below.

Stritch enters the final week of the season leading the Wildcats in all three triple crown categories: average (.401), homers (7) and RBIs (47). He will try to become just the fifth Wildcat ever to hit .400 in a season, the last being current Milwaukee Brewer infielder Mark Loretta, who hit .408 in 1993. Stritch also ranks second on NU's all-time home run chart with 31 and third in career RBIs with 143.

The Wildcats, currently in sixth place in the Big Ten at 25-23 overall and 9-15 in conference play, close out the 1998 campaign with five home games this week: Tuesday vs. North Central (3 p.m.); Friday vs. Minnesota (3 p.m.); Saturday vs. Minnesota (1 p.m. DH); and Sunday vs. Minnesota (1 p.m.).
