Stritch Named Baseball Player of the Week

    Talented senior nabs conference honors.

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern fifth-year senior Mike Stritch (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) was named co-Big Ten Baseball Player of the Week today by the conference office, sharing the honor with Penn States Dan Beers.

Stritch tied a 41-year-old Big Ten Conference record on Friday with his 6-for-6 performance in NUs 20-18 victory at Penn State. He became just the third player in Big Ten history to record six hits in a conference game. The other two were Purdues Bill Gorman vs. Iowa on May 4, 1957, and Northwesterns Don Burson vs. Wisconsin on May 22, 1948. In five games last week, Stritch hit 13-for-18 (.722) with 11 runs scored and 10 RBIs. He reached base in 15 of 20 plate appearances for an .800 on-base percentage and had a 1.000 slugging percentage for the week.
